A comprehensive psychiatric evaluation – necessary to diagnose any number of emotional, behavioral, or developmental disorders. An evaluation may be needed to determine an appropriate level of care and make recommendations for services for a child or adolescent.
Medication management may be required based upon the psychiatrist’s recommendations and the type/number of medications the client is prescribed.
In individual counseling or therapy, a client meets one-on-one with a professional. Such a
working relationship may last for only a few sessions or may continue for much longer, depending
on the needs of the client.
Clients seek therapy for a variety of reasons with the hope of feeling better overall. Common
reasons include: depression, anxiety, family and relationship issues, eating and body image
issues and work related stress.
This program fulfills the legal requirements for outpatient counseling as mandated by the courts. The goal of the program is to help the individual learn insight into the disease concept and the benefits of sobriety. Each client will receive an intake, drug and alcohol assessment, exit interview and aftercare plan. This program is available in both English and Spanish.
Family therapy involves discussion and problem-solving sessions
with the family. Some of these sessions may be as a group, in couples or one-on-one. In family
therapy, the web of interpersonal relationships is examined and, ideally, communication is
strengthened within the family system.
Kathleen Coughlin, LSW and Associates offers relationship counseling for both married and unmarried couples. Our counselors may assist clients in addressing some of the following issues: Frequent arguments, poor communication, infidelity, lack of affection and emotional distance. Our counselor's goal is to help you to improve and strengthen your relationship.
Supervised visitation is a generic term that describes parent/child contact overseen by a third party. It is also a term for contact between a noncustodial parent and one or more children in the presence of a third person, in which the only focus is the protection and safety of the child and adult participants.
Supportive supervised visitation is contact between a noncustodial parent and one or more children in the presence of a third person, in which the supervisor is actively involved in promoting behavioral change in the parent/child relationships.
Our program is a 12-week anger and violence prevention program (individual or group). Some people refer themselves to our classes as a direct result of their own upsetting behavior, which they have decided to change. Others are referred due to a precipitating event such as a relationship breakup or disruption with a co-worker in which anger management participation is a condition for reconciliation. Other categories of referrals to our programs are people who are sent through their attorneys, the court system, their therapist, their employer, or family members. Please call our office for further details.
A home study is a written report containing the findings of the
social worker who has met a number of times with the family. The social worker visits the home
several times. During these visits the social worker will collect data on the health, medical,
legal and other relative family history.
The purpose of the home study is to help the court determine whether the adoptive parents are
qualified to adopt a child, based on the criteria that has been established by state law. Home
studies are also used to assist in child custody decisions.
In addition, our practice offers therapy on-site at your group home, skilled nursing facility, hospital, business, independent living home, retirement community and nursing homes. Our professionals will provide on-site counseling to your employees or residents. Please feel free to contact us and we would be happy to schedule a time to do a presentation for your business or organization.
